Random Musings

Questions about an assignment? An unfinished debate from class? Something you wish to share? This is the place! We can also use this site as a way for you to ask and to respond to questions that you might be having with the homework or readings ( but I think that I might need a separate post for grammar!).

As always, this does count for participation credit (B-squares).

  1. For vocabulary sentences can we type them on the computer or should they be hand written?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Victoria,
I typed mine, and I'm pretty sure it's ok for them to be typed.

    ReplyDelete
  3. When we do daily reflections, should they be double space and are they normally due every tuesday?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Danielle, I believe that they are supposed to be double spaced, and as far as i know they are do every tuesday
    -lauren

    ReplyDelete
  5. On the daily reflections sheet that we have it says that The daily reflections for the entire week will be collected the following Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't know... it should be being assigned soon, I think.

And also, any restrictions on homework coupon useage?

    ReplyDelete
  7. For the mythology yearbook, is it due in two weeks or three? I thought it was three but the page says the deadline is oct. 2 which is in two weeks

  8. THIS WEIRD MUSIC IS FROM GRAMMAR NINJA!!

  9. I have a few questions about And Then There Were None.

I thought Vera Claythorne did not drown Cyril intentionally... But I'm not sure. Would anyone mind clearing that up for me, please?

I also got confused about Wargrave's crime. Did he really help convict an innocent man? Or was the man truly guilty?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Erin,

From what I understand, I think this is the story, but I'm not entirely sure:

Hugo had left Cyril with Vera and Cyril had been bugging Vera to swim out further and further. Eventually she said yes, and this is when he drowned. Vera began to swim out to rescue him, but she was too late.

    Marissa

    ReplyDelete
  11. Also, my question still lingers: any restrictions on homework coupons?!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Erin,
Mr.Wargrave did not convict an innocent man. The man was guilty. That is why it was included in the clues he left behind for the authorities to find. His case was the only one where his actions did not lead to the death of someone non-deserving. Although Vera did not intentionally kill the boy her actions led to his death making her the real murderer.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ally,
I believe Vera intentionally killed Cyril. Eventually, she gave into his begging. After her realizing that he was unable to do it because he was too weak, she decided to let him. This is because she felt this would allow for her and Hugo to get married. She did not know that Hugo would not marry her because of it.

Marissa, I am unsure about homework coupon usage.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, okay Tracey.
I had always seen Vera as more of a victim in the situation, being haunted by the guilt of killing Cyril which is why I had not seen that she may of done it intentionally to be with Hugo.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sorry for the delay....
    - the deadline for the yearbook will be 10-9 to give you three weeks
    - homework passes can be used for an assignment that is being counted as homework. They cannot be used for journals, essays, etc. AND, if there are two or three written / graded assignments due in one day, it can only be used for ONE.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Miss Arney, you said during class that you would post the Mythology assignment due Tuesday on your website, but I do not see it. When are you going to put it up?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry, Miss Arney! I found it on the weekly agenda sheet.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This question might seem irrelevant, but when are we going to read To Kill a Mockingbird this year? Sorry, just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Erin, I hope we are reading soon because everyone who read book in Arney's class enjoyed it. I personally have no idea what is so great about the book.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks, Jimin! Haha, I hope so too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just curious what is everyone doing for their modern greek god/ goddess assignment? I am doing Rachel Ray the Goddess of cooking.

    ReplyDelete
  22. How do we turn in the god/goddess assignment early?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Erika: that's really cute!
Jimin: email it to me before midnight tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Erika, that's a great idea. I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I'm thinking along the lines of some kind of celebrity... I'm thinking maybe I might use Jeff Probst (Survivor's host) and make him the god of survival.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Erin, i think that is a great idea. i was thinking of using survivor too. i am going to use Johnny-Fair-Play as the god of lying and cheating.
    -Megan Gallagher

    ReplyDelete
  26. Erika, I really like that! I am doing Venus Williams the goddess of tennis. Also I am confused about the family tree. Do we do their actual relatives, or people we think would be their relatives?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  27. If we email the assignment early, do we have to bring it on paper Tuesday as well?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have the same question as Kelly.
Also, I emailed you my assignment, however I'm not sure if you will be able to open it because I have a Mac? Does that make a difference?

    ReplyDelete
  29. For those of you with a Mac, you can email it to me to prove it was done by the required early deadline; however, I think I will need you to print it out and submit it during class too.

I'm loving the creativity I'm seeing here and cannot WAIT to read these :=)

    ReplyDelete
  30. For the modern god and goddesses assignment what are we supposed to say about our god?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shannon,
    I don't understand your question...

    ReplyDelete
  32. For the modern god and godesses assignment do they have to be alive? Do we have to make a big family tree?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Should we use an MLA heading for the gods and goddesses assignment?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, I think we do because dhe wants it on all assignments

    ReplyDelete
  35. For the modern god/goddess project, are we allowed to list everything, or are we mandated to make a paragraph? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jessica: the family tree can be brief...and the god/goddess is fictional; what do you mean by "do they have to be alive"?
Richie: it is a graded writing assignment; you may put some of the basic info (like the domain and symbol) in a bulletted form; however, I want sentences/ paragraphs.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Do we have to email the modern day gods and goddesses project today because the website says it is due the twenty eigth but we are not in school. If we do have to email it, I wanted to draw a picture on it so should i draw it and then scan it or take a picture for the computer, or hand in the picture tomorrow and email the paper today?

    ReplyDelete
  38. thanks Miss Arney. THAT CLEARED THINGS UP.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No - it is due tomorrow; I didn't realize we had today off when I made up last week's agenda and posted the deadline. Sorry for the confusion, Danielle.
    I'm glad, Jessica :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ok thats a lot easier. Thank you Miss Arney!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Miss Arney,
For the thing on the agenda regarding the Mythology Cornell Notes, are we going to go over in class the format for Cornell Notes?

    ReplyDelete
  42. The format is actually the format of your mythology study guide; you keep your notes on the right hand side (3/4 of the page) leaving space on the left for extra comments, annotations, and notations. Does this sound familiar? I think you guys learned this in middle school...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yes, i think we did do that in Ms. DeNoyelles class to. Also for reading the book, the Odyssey, will we be getting a book from class or will we have to get our own so that we can start working on it early?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Miss Arney,

Do we bring our MLA Handbook and Grammar Book to class tomorrow?

    Marissa

    ReplyDelete
  45. ...also, the Grammar Notes that are due on Thursday, can we just take plain bulleted notes? Or does this also have to be in Cornell notes like the Mythology ones?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ok i was just making sure.
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Megan, The version you are reading is from a textbook you will receive in class. I will hand them out this Friday.
You do not need your MLA or Eng workbook tomorrow; you will need the ENg workbook on Friday.
You may take notes in whatever format works for you.

    ReplyDelete
  48. For the mythology yearbook superlatives, since it indicates on the sheet that there should be at least be ten girls and ten boys, does that mean that our senior photos page should have at least 20 people? Assuming that all seniors get a superlative? Or do the superlatives not have to be all seniors?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Also, on the agenda for Friday, it says something about taking notes in a study guide? Is this something that will be given later in the week and is due Monday, 10/5?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have a question about the paragraph about Athena. If were supposed to find how Athena is vengeful and merciful isn't that like 2 concrete details. What would we use the third concrete detail for? To support another concrete detail of how Athena is vengeful or merciful? Or do we only do 2 concrete details and 4 commentary?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Miss Arney,
As you know Grace and I will be leaving for FLorida so I was wondering if i could drop some stuff off to you tommorrow and then email you some other things. Also there is an AP essay due on Tuesday and a test on Wednsday.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Kevin:
You are using a 8 sentence paragraph model (2 concrete details in the paragraph).
Erika: I heard about the essay and test; I will move the myth test until the week after, but I'm leaving the yearbook project deadline on Friday. Thank you for dropping off the materials; you can simply submit the other assignments when you return. I will not take off for not having your work done early!
Tracy: Yes - 10 females and males PER superlative. And you will be receiving a study guide on Friday (I hope it's back from the xeroxing center). And it's due a week from Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ok thanks, so that is saying that a boy and a girl for each superlative, so there should be at least 10 total superlatives?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Miss Arney,
For the grammar notes due tomorrow, did we have to do the checkpoint on page nine for pronouns along with the annotating or just annotate pages 3-9?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tracey: 10 superlatives x 1 female x 1 male for each = 20 total.
I'm sorry that I'm confusing you.
Danielle: no - just the notes; not the activities.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Miss Arney,
For the paragragh on Athena, do you want us to put the proper format on it since we are checking it with the whole class?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Miss Arney,
can we do more than one CD for the daily reflection?

    Marissa

    ReplyDelete
  58. If we make up our own page for the yearbook, like a prom page do we then make six pages or does that page take the place of another and we still only have to do 5?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Erika, as far as i know if you add your own page that counts for a sixth page and the other five pages are required.
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  60. On the agenda sheet it says: Complete your notes in your study guide (from the introduction); have them with you on Monday. Does that mean we have to fill-in all the blanks in the green Mythology book?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Miss Arney, for the superlatives, can I repeat the same character more than once? If I do, do I have to do more that the ten superlatives, so I have twenty different mythological characters?
Also, what do you mean when you refer to the Mythology study guide? Is it the green packet, the Cornell Notes on the Trojan War, or something else?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think the study guide is referring to a study guide for the Odyssey, which she didn't give and she said not to worry about. But I'm not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  63. For the yearbook project, can the font for the sponsership ads be larger than size twelve font? Also, can the font be different types for the ads? And the names of the faculty and the students can be over size twelve font, right?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Miss Arney,
For the mythology yearbook, if I do a clubs page, does there have to be people in charge such as teachers because then the teachers would have to correspond with a faculty page?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Miss Arney,
We are almost finished and I was informed the whole yearbook has to be typed? What if we neatly wrote all of the captions, descriptions, and names....?

    ReplyDelete
  66. This goes along the lines of Tracey's blog, but could we use sticker letters or make the font bigger because I feel like the font is too small and I already have letters. If we have to type it all, could the different superlatives not have to be typed?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Although we hand-wrote everything, we are typing everything and making it a reference in the back as well. WIll this suffice? Sorry for the inconvenience...

    ReplyDelete
  68. i have a question regarding the teams and clubs pages. i understand that we are supposed to pick 5 of the listed pages, and i was wonderign if it counts as separate pages if we included a teams pages and then a clubs page? or would we have to do another page? also what do you mean by the description of the team? do you mean to include the name, pictue and roster of the team or are we suppossed to write sentences about the team?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Tara,
If you do a teams page and a clubs page, it counts two different pages.

    ReplyDelete
  70. For the yearbook if we include someone in a sponsor page and we don't have a picture of them do they count as one of the 25 people?

    ReplyDelete
  71. miss arney,
for the yearbook are we allowed to repeat characters that we already used as seniors? and then if we do use more then 20 characters to fulfill the 25 character minimum

    ReplyDelete
  72. Tori,
You are allowed to repeat characters that are seniors but you still need to have 25 different characters. Miss Arney told us that it would also be a good thing to show so it connects. Just make sure that teachers are only in teacher positions and students are in student positions. Hope that helps!

    ReplyDelete
  73. miss arney,
fo rthe yearbook i have 10 seniors and like 14 faculty but i am unsure how to get to th 25 charater minimum? also fo rthe teams and spots can i have three teams and 1 club? and can superlatives repeat? and if i wanted to add the year on the front shuld i just put 2009-2010 or should i put the real dates? finally, to use up soem extra space can i put a graduation page ?
sorry abour all th questions :)
    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  74. For the Odyssey questions in the study guide, should we wrote those on loose-leaf or is it ok if we put the answers straight in the book?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  75. Lauren,
I would assume that you should write it on loose leaf because that makes more sense, and if we're handing it in that would also make sense... ***But I'm not completely sure so it would be in your best interest to ask Miss Arney :-)

    hope this helps, good luck!!
    James =]

  77. Miss Arney, on the bottom of the agenda sheet you said that we don't need to write down our responses to the Odyssey questions in complete sentences. Does that count for that questions that you didn't assign or all of them?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Miss Arney,
for the Odyssey questions, could we be tested on the questions that are not assigned on the agenda sheet? For instance, for the Cyclops section, there are only specific numbers assigned. The numbers not assigned, could still show up on a reading quiz though, right?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yes, Tracey. Remember the note at the bottom of the agenda: the questions that do not require written responses (and I emphasize REQUIRE) should be readily answerable in your head. SO, yes; I could ask one of them on a quiz.

Annette: I'm not planning to collect the study guides so I don't want you writing your own epics to answer the questions. Just be specific enough to reflect your understanding of the reading.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm not sure if this was asked yet but for the Trojan War notes, do they have to be brief or have some real "notes" in them. I wanted to know because I have the notes but I think I overdid them, too much info! :) So yeah help would be needed.

    ReplyDelete
  81. For the grammar packets we received today, does anyone know if there is any assignments in them yet? Or if they are for something that will be assigned in the future?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Miss Arney said that there are no assignments in them as of now, but she may assign something tomorrow for the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  83. For the wordmastors, are just the flash cards due Monday or is the test Monday too?

    ReplyDelete
  84. I have the same question as Megan, the flashcards are mandatory and due Monday, right?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Tracey: There WILL be a short assignment that you will get tomorrow; nothing tonight (finish the notes on the epic).

and the word masters flashcards are NOT mandatory; those of you who want extra credit may make them and THEN they are due on Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have another question.
In the Odyssey study guide, for the Odyssey Part 1, one of the questions is
"In relation to time, do you notice anything symbolic in the numbers of Helios's herd? (615-617)

These lines are referring to where it states that there are 7 heards and flocks, with 50 beasts in each. Does this have something to do with Helios being the 12noon sun? I don't see the connection

    ReplyDelete
  87. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Tracey: Keep in mind that the ancient Greeks didn't have a calendar. If Helios is responsible for the sun (passing of time each day), check those numbers again.
    7 herds
    50 cows
    Can anyone figure it out?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Is it that there are 7 days in a week, and about 50 weeks in a year?

    ReplyDelete
  90. For the grammar homework, identifying subjects and predicates, if there is more then one subject and predicate can we put it?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  91. If you have a compound subject or a compound verb / predicate, consult the yellow sentence diagramming packet.
It looks somewhat like a rocketship.

    ReplyDelete
  92. ok thanks ms arney
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  93. Are we supposed to do the simple subject and simple predicate only for the first two assignments on the homework because it says to do the complete subject and predicate for the second but today we learned about simple?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I think Ms. Iorio said that we only do the simple subject and predicate for the second one even though the directions say otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes: Ignore the directions. I only want you to identify the simple subject and simple predicate.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Miss Arney,
for the unit sentences, are we allowed to repeat themes we have already used. For example, using the same tv show like One Tree Hill?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Thank you! I also have another question. If the sentence is I was jumping on the trampoline, would the simple predicate be was, jumping, or was jumping?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Tracey:
    Yes.

Danielle: Helping verbs are ALWAYS part of the verb. so "was jumping" is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  99. For the questions in the study guide, we only have to do the ones that you assigned right?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Megan, you only have to do the assigned questions, but the other ones you should know and can be tested on.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Do we need to know only the question that we answered or what we read even though we didnt answer it?

    ReplyDelete
  102. The wordmasters extra credit flashcards are due tomorrow. Is the wordmasters test also tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Jimin, Miss Arney said we should know the questions assigned but we can also be tested on the other questions and what we read so I would know a basic idea of what happened. I hope that helped enough!

    ReplyDelete
  104. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Miss Arney,

Is the Odyssesy blue study guide book being collected and graded on the content and the how well we answered the questions/took notes? I am confused with some of the reading and questions, so I know a lot of my responses will not be correct.

    Marissa

    ReplyDelete
  106. Marissa,
From what I know, I am pretty sure the study guide will not be collected and graded.
However, if you answer the questions correctly in your book, and they appear on the quizzes and tests, then you will have the right answers and potentially get a good grade.

    ReplyDelete
  107. When are vocab sentences due?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  108. Thanks Danielle! And Lauren we just got the unit 3 vocabluary on Friday so it should be due sometime this week. It will probably be on the agenda

    ReplyDelete
  109. Lauren, Miss Arney just posted the agenda for this week and it says the flashcards and sentences are due Friday and the test is next Tuesday.

    ReplyDelete
  110. thanks so much danielle :)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Danielle, where did you find the agenda? When I go to Miss Arneys website under the agenda section is the notes she posted about the changes from last week?

    ReplyDelete
  112. The agenda is on Miss Arney's website under the agenda section. It was just recently posted so maybe if you refresh the page it will come up. I had kept on going on but it was not up until recently for this weeks agenda.

  114. For the Daily Reflections do we hav to use the paragraph format with the commentary, conrete detail...?

    ReplyDelete
  115. can we use a hw pass on daily refelctions?

    ReplyDelete
  116. I have the same question as Annette. Should we follow the cd, cm cm format for tonight's reflection.

My other question that I was confused on while reading the Odyssey, is why was Poseidon so angry at Odysseus that he made him have such a horrible journey home. I know you said there were two reasons, the only one I can think of is that Odysseus hurt Poseidon's child, Polyphemus?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Tracey, after wining the Trojan War Odysseus forgot to thank Posidon so the god became mad at him.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Ok thanks, that is the only reason?

    ReplyDelete
  119. I know this is a little off topic, but before school ended there was a packet that Ms. Arney gave us with all the vocab words was that due or do we still have time to hand it in?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Its that and what you said about Polyphemus.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Erika, which packet with vocab words did you get because I dont remember getting one? What are some of the words in it?

    ReplyDelete
  122. Erika- I also don't remember this packet, unless your talking about the word masters sheet she gave us in the summer, but wasn't that extra credit?

Also, I assume that for Daily Reflection #1 I assume that we are allowed to use pronouns such as I,he,she, they etc. Someone please correct me if we are not supposed to.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Kevin, you can use pronouns except the 1st and 2nd person words you,me,I,or us.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Are we allowed to use I in the daily reflection that is due tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  125. I also have the same question as Annette and Tracey, does anyone know if we are supposed to use the format for the daily reflections?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  126. I assumed that since it is a reflection reguarding my personal life experiences, I used the first person "I" form.

    ReplyDelete
  127. So we would use third person for the daily reflection? As if we were telling a story?

    ReplyDelete
  128. since no ones really sure, maybe going with a normal paragraph wld work for this, but going with the formal paragraph form wld b playing it safe...

    ReplyDelete
  129. Tracey, for the reasons why Posiedon didnt like Odysseus, one was because he hurt Polyphemus and the other was when he honored the gods by making a sacrifice, he honored all the gods except for Posiedon.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Ok, thanks so much for the clarification!

    ReplyDelete
  131. Also, for the song lyrics on the agenda sheet, is that the extra credit assignment Miss Arney assigned for us?

    ReplyDelete
  132. Thanks Tracey, and also, should we use commentary for the paragraph? I don't really understand how we would, but I'm confused on whether we are supposed to use it it not
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  133. I think we can use the first and second person point of view because it is a personal experience. Sorry I did not realize it when I blogged Kevin!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Lauren, I am just going to use the commentary, concrete detail format to be sure so I am going to use commentary with it.

    ReplyDelete
  135. ok, Thanks Danielle!
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  136. Megan, that extra credit assignment is not due until november 2nd.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Should the daily reflections be double spaced?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Also, should we write this in present or past tense?

    ReplyDelete
  139. Jason, I am not positive but I double spaced mine just to be sure its ok.
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jason, I think you can write in the past tense because it is a previous experience. Usually if you are refering to literature though you write in the present.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Hey, Scholars.
I'm sorry that the daily reflection caused so much angst and confusion tonight....and that I'm just now getting a chance to respond to your questions. Please remember that I will not be able to access the blog until around this time for the next 3 weeks (until the senior show is over).
Thank you to all of you who are helping your classmates out.
Yes: when writing about a personal narrative, first person is acceptable...and so is past tense. Present tense is required when writing about literature. I also mentioned in class that this was not a typical daily reflection (following the TS/CD/CM/CM....etc model). Miss Iorio and I will be understanding when grading these as we did not anticipate so many questions!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Miss Arney,
for tonight's daily reflection, should we follow the CD/CM/CM format, while writing in the perspective of a different person?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Also, if we are doing the point of view of a shipmate, do we have to identify the name? This is considering we do not know many of the shipmates' names?

    ReplyDelete
  144. If we are doing the point of view of his shipmate who was Odysseus' bestfriend, do we have ro identify the name?

    ReplyDelete
  145. I don't think you need to have CD - CM - CM pattern for the second daily reflection as it is kind of weird for a narrative story.

ex. I saw Odysseus plunge his spear for my eye. In this context, one can truly understand the fear the cyclops endured as he lived the last moments of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I know that we had that wordmasters quiz today, but is the part one of the Odyssey tommorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Erika, if you look on the assignment sheet, it say something about a quiz on Friday, I asked her and she said it was the Odyssey quiz.
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  148. For the grammer sheet, I know that we include helping verbs, do we also include verb phrases?

For example, one of the questions is; The men must have been working.
in this the subject is men
and the predicate is "have been working"? so we would include the helping verbs "have been", right?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Tracey, thats what I did, because Ms. Arney even said to include them and if they are part of the verb phrase, I think that would make sense.
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  150. Tracey, I would include verb phrases because usually helping verbs are considered part of the whole verb. for your example, must have been working would be the verb.

  151. For the daily reflection, can we write it in first person, since we are writing in a characters point of view?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  152. Lauren, i have the same question. Since we are writing in another characters point of view should we use first person point of view?

    ReplyDelete
  153. I would write in first person perspective because you are supposed to be pretending to be in a character's place as the character. So I think it would be ok to use first and second person like last night's reflection.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Ok i was thinking of doing that. Thanks Danielle!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. are we allowed to use hw passes for both the odysseys daily reflections?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Hi!This is my first time using the blog so forgive me for any mistakes- I'm still learning!
Tracey- Your reflection does not need CD-CM-CM format. Just as Kevin pointed out, your writing should be from the perspective of one of the characters so it must be in 1st person. You want your readers to get a sense of what happened based on the viewpoint of someone other than Odysseus.
Jimin-If you are using one of the shipmates, I do NOT require a specific name. Make sure to indicate that you are part of the crew!
Erika- The quiz on Friday is on The Odyssey and will be based on your readings and classroom discussions/activities.
Lauren- You must write in 1st person!
    Everyone-I hope this helps!Good luck :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. Marissa and Amanda: I believe you CAN use a homework pass.
Amanda: Do you have any questions that I can help you with?

    ReplyDelete
  161. This is kind of off topic, but for the vocabulary if we hand in the flash cards early but not sentences, do we still get extra credit? And if so how much?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  162. Yes, we do get extra credit, but I do not know how much.

    ReplyDelete
  163. For the second Odyssey daily reflection, can it include details that I made up that are not necessarily true, but nothing in the text proves it false?

    ReplyDelete
  164. Miss Arney, you said something in class about another extra credit grammer assignment? What would that be and when would it be due?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Megan i was wondering about that too. If you go on the website to the second extra credit dog there is a grammar challege, but that was for June of last year. I do not think she has posted any for us right now.

    ReplyDelete
  166. No, not yet! I want to review one or two more diagramming functions before you get your first diagram challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Ok, thank you Miss Arney! I was just wondering because you had said it in class.

    ReplyDelete
  168. For the grammar assignment that was due today in class, if you handed it back to us and it was incorrect, were we supposed to redo it and hand it in tommrow?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  169. Lauren,
I do not know, but there is a separate grammar assignment for tonight that is due tomorrow. It is on the agenda.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Lauren, I think you were supposed to redo the assignment if it was wrong and then hand it in again.

    ReplyDelete
  171. If you're talking about the diagramming being incorrect, then yes you were supposed to redo it. I'm pretty sure.

    ReplyDelete
  172. For the grammar homework, I am a bit confused. For example one of the sentences says "There he began his lifelong study of science and math". Would that sentence be made into a spaceship diagram?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  173. For the sentence "There he began his lifelong study of science and math," I think
"he" is the subject and "began" is the verb. No spaceship diagrams are necessary because science and math are part of a prepositional phrase. I hope this helps, Lauren.

  174. Miss Arney or Miss Iorio, I think this blog is getting a little bit too large and confusing to read (it is larger than the summer reading one!). Are you going to put up a new blog for the Odyessey or a new Random Musings blog?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Thanks, Jeremy
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  176. Where do we find the diagraming sentences to do extra credit on?
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  177. Miss Arney said that she is going to put the extra credit assignment up on her website on Sunday night.

    ReplyDelete
  178. ok, Thanks!
    -Lauren

    ReplyDelete
  179. The Grammar Challenge is now up on the website - click on the cobra!

    ReplyDelete
  180. A new random musings will be put up for the new quarter, but I'll be adding a few new threads this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  181. This is random, but are we allowed to create and bring in more than one pumpkin if we want to?

    ReplyDelete
  182. danielle,
I think we are if they have contributing ideas to one another, like the excample Miss Arney told us in class about the students who made a complete diagram of the nine levels of hell. But I'm not sure if we can bring in more then one pumpkin as two seperate projects.

    ReplyDelete
  183. For the modern epic hero are we only allowed to use the four people listed on the extra credit page or can we use other people?
